Officially, the Disney World Resort and Theme park complex is known as Walt Disney Resort. The complex in Lake Buena Vista and Bay Lake Florida is situated near Orlando, Florida and host several disney world hotels. Before Walt could begin work on the Florida Project, it took a great deal of lobbying before the Reed Creek Improvement district became a reality. After which, Disney gained the rights to become an incorporated city. Sadly, Walt passed away before the work began and never lived to see the completion of the project. Later, the company began creating a resort akin to that of the location in California.
In the process, the company abandoned earlier concepts for a planned community and village. After which, the company opened Magic Kingdom in 1971. Then, Epcot was completed in 1982 and Hollywood Studios in 1989 with Animal Kingdom opening in 1998. The most recent attraction to any of the parks is that of the new Star Wars Experience.
Currently, the resort continues to be one of the most popular attractions in America. With millions in attendance each year, the resort remains a destination for vacationers, corporations, schools and others. As such, it has become a staple with regards to American culture.
